On this day in 1948… (April 2)

This post is part of a continuing series on the Censored Newspaper Articles (CNAs).

On April 2, 1948, Tokyo Shimbun submitted an article entitled,”Doctor of Zoology” (Prange Call No. 48-loc-0537), to the Civil Censorship Detachment (CCD).  The article reports that Mr. Ichisaburo Ozawa, Managing Director of the Experimental Animals Breeding Association in Saitama Prefecture, became the first Japanese person to be granted the title of Doctor of Zoology by General Headquarters (GHQ).  The article was suppressed by the CCD for unknown reasons.

The Japanese galley proof is available onsite in the Prange Collection and onsite at the National Diet Library (NDL) through NDL’s Digital Collection.
