This post is part of a continuing series on the Censored Newspaper Articles (CNAs).
On January 14, 1948, Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun each submitted an article to the Civil Censorship Detachment (CCD) about GHQ’s distribution of Occupation Army boots and shoes to farmers who complied with the rice delivery requirement. (Prange Call No. 48-loc-0161, 48-loc-0161a) The articles were “held” and then “passed”. They both included details about the number of shoes and their prices, and they stressed that reselling of these goods would be strictly punished.
The Japanese galley proofs (Asahi Shimbun – 48-loc-0161, and Yomiuri Shimbun – 48-loc-0161a) are available onsite in the Prange Collection.
