Featured magazines – published in Shizuoka-ken

This post is Part IV in a continuing series on Prange Collection magazines that are now available in digital form onsite at the National Diet Library of Japan (NDL). (Also see Part I: Kyoto-fu, Part II: Hokkaido, and Part III: Kagoshima-ken.) 

In this post, we are featuring magazines published in Shizuoka-ken.

  • [1巻1号(1948年10月)-2巻9号通巻12号(1949年9月)] (Call No. C5)

An agricultural magazine, “Cha/茶”, was published in Showa-cho/昭和町 by Shizuoka-ken Chanogyo Kyodo Kumiai Rengokai/静岡県茶農業協同組合連合会.  It contains many technical articles, such as “Introduction to the Newest Tea Making” (Vol. 2, No. 4) or “Application of the Labor Standards Act in a Tea-making Factory” (Vol. 2, No. 5).

  • 田園 [1巻1号(1947年10月)-3巻5号(1949年5月)] (Call No. D138)

“Denen/田園” is also an agricultural magazine published by Shizuoka-ken Nogyokai/静岡県農業会. It includes several technical articles, such as “Re-opening of foreign trade and what farmers should prepare for/貿易再開と農民の覚悟” (Vol. 2), but it also offers readings for entertainment for all age groups, such as comic strips, recipes, and Romaji lessons.

  • 第三日本 [134号(1948年5月)-148号(1949年9月)] (call No. D57)

“Daisan Nihon/第三日本” was published by Soto Gakujutsuin/総統学術院 in order to promote Daisan Minshu Domei/第三民主同盟.  It includes political essays and workshops for youth and women.

  • 団報 [1946年12月] (Call No. D79)

“Danpo/団報, ” published by Ogasa-gun Kumami-mura Seinendan/小笠郡倉真村青年団, offers Haiku, essays and poems from the members of the young men’s association.  You can see 5 disapprovals from the Civil Censorship Detachment (CCD) in multiple essays, but due to the poor quality of the printing, it is hard to read the contents.

  • デルタ [1号(1948年10月)] (Call No. D201)

“Deruta/デルタ” is a student newsletter published by Shizuoka Kenritsu Mishima Daini Koto Gakko Bungeibu/静岡県立三島第二高等学校文芸部.  The members of the club published their movie or tanka reviews and essays.  The editors expressed their gratitude to teachers who helped them to publish this newsletter.

“Chikusan Kurabu/畜産クラブ” is also a student newsletter published by “Shizuoka Kenritsu Shizuoka Nogakko Bungeihan/静岡県立静岡農學校文芸班.  Unlike “Deruta” above, “Chikusan Kurabu” offers more technical articles on the topics related to farming.
