Digitized Prange Collection Books Available at the National Diet Library of Japan

BLOG_NDL_DigitalCollection_ENFor nearly two decades, the UMD Libraries have partnered with the National Diet Library of Japan (NDL) to preserve and provide access to the materials in the Prange Collection.

The digitization of the 71,000 Prange Collection books began in 2005. The children’s books were scanned first. The 8,000 children’s book titles are available on color microfilm at NDL’s International Library of Children’s Literature and online through the UMD LIbraries’ digital collections (full-text access is limited to the UMD College Park campus).  Now 3,400 of the digitized books from the general book collection are available, full-text, onsite at NDL.  They are also available onsite in the Prange Collection.  If you wish to see the digital images in the Prange Collection, please include the Prange Collection Call Number (” プランゲ文庫請求記号”  included in the  “Detailed Record View” on the NDL website) on the Material Request Form.
