Memorize the Press Code!

Among the hundreds of thousands of censorship documents in the Prange Collection, it’s rare to find a sarcastic, even comical, exchange between the Civil Censorship Detachment staff.  They took their job seriously.  However, the Yomiuri seiji nenkan 1947 seemed to be fraught with violations of the Press Code (the Prange Collection has over 100 pages of censorship documents for this book) and provoked the following exchange between the staff, “Kindly give copy of press code to editor and ask him to memorize it.”  To which a colleague wrote, “Excellent suggestion!”   The Prange Collection also has the galley proof of this book (Call No. AY-0296g).
